After three previous single releases the electro project MonoSapien is going to release his debut album “In eigener Sache” (On My Own Account) – a title that could not be more fitting. With these eight tracks (plus two remixes) MonoSapien bares a fallow soul and takes the listener on a very personal journey. Mastermind Tom “Mono” Niebuhr depicts what bothers him most: the depths and shadows of his soul. The album is about the eternal quest for the one true love, about drug abuse, anxiety, conflicts, loss and the past. Certainly, these are no topics which you would discuss in a cozy atmosphere at your regular’s table in your favourite pub. However, these are the things that many of us have experienced or are still going through: the down side of life. The album combines catchy synth sounds with Mono’s sometimes smooth, sometimes aggressively husky voice, German lyrics and ambient soundscapes giving the songs their own individual personality. Mono himself composed and wrote the songs. He also took care of the mastering and album artwork. “I do not want to sugarcoat or pretty up something by any kind of filters. That is something others can do. Those who listen to the album shall perceive it as rough and imperfect as I am: a character with rough edges and a mind of my own”, Mono explains his modus operandi. “In eigener Sache” is catchy without trying to be a smoothed-out genre single hit, partly unwieldy with said rough edges, but always captivating, relatable and also danceable. This is an album for explorers of interesting electronic worlds of sound.
